Also known as Jakes Creek Reservoir. Boies Reservoir is a 62-acre irrigation impoundment built in 1966 on the Boies Ranch, 47 miles north of Wells.
The land surrounding the reservoir remains strictly private, but entirely accessible to the public thanks to a cooperative effort by the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW). Extremely popular with anglers, Boies is known for its easy shore access and its high catches of Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass, and Channel Catfish. As summer progresses, aquatic vegetation chokes out the lake making fishing from the shoreline difficult and often mandating the use of float tubes. Alternatively, Boies is a highly popular ice fishery between December and March with fair to good success for trout. Although the landowner does permit camping, conditions are primitive and space is limited.
